Abstract

The text presents an analysis of the rejection of articles by the editorial committees and referees of a specialized journal. The purpose is to identify the various causes that hinder scientific writing, as well as to reflect on the implications that this brings, not only for journal but also for the dissemination of scientific knowledge in the disciplinary area. The type of study is discourse analysis. The corpus is made up of articles from the Cuadernos de Lingüística Hispánica journal rejected between July 2019 and December 2020, corresponding to numbers 33 to 36. The results indicate that the rejection of scientific articles is caused, on the one hand, by various weaknesses in both linguistic and communicative competence and, on the other, because a good number of authors disregard editorial rules. It is concluded that writing is not an easy task; It is a self-study exercise that requires commitment and interest in learning to be better writers, better researchers, and better thinkers.
